H+P:A, in partnership with Edward Baum, FAIA, was awarded the SENSE OF PLACE Award by Preservation Dallas last week at a ceremony held at the Kalita Humphreys Theater.  This award was given to recognize the new Dallas Contemporary gallery space located at 161 Glass Street.

The new Uncle Julio’s at Perimeter Town  Center is now open in Sandy Springs, GA.  This is the first two story Uncle Julio’s and it offers many design features unique to this store.  Including an awesome cantera stone and talevera tile feature stair which backs the hostess stand off of the downstairs bar. This restaurant has upper and lower floor outdoor dining and full bar service on both levels.  See some pictures of the new space after the break.

H+P:A would like to congratulate one of our long time clients, the Uncle Julio’s Corporation, on the successful opening of their latest restaurant in Boca Raton, Florida.  We had the pleasure of attending the opening night of the new restaurant this past weekend and it was a great success.  We wish them the best and encourage anyone in the area to give it a try, you will not be disappointed.

From a professional point-of-view, this project has great satisfaction for H+P:A, as this project presented a unique set of challenges.

The space, which this restaurant now occupies, was previously a woman’s clothing store and an art gallery.  The space occupies the ground level of a 3 story mixed use building, with office space above, and no allowance for mechanical access for the large amount of kitchen equipment needed. Working with the management company of the building complex, the design team and general contractor we where able to accommodate an uncompromised program for the restaurant, while maintaining the aesthetic character of the existing building.

In addition, the design team was able to produce an interior space which flows to the exterior patio spaces seamlessly.  A key goal to take advantage of the exceptional Floridian climate.  Married with a dramatic color scheme, careful lighting, and exceptional build quality, this project is one we feel confident will be a great success.

H+P:A has recently implemented a new office management software written especailly for architects, call Archioffice. Don’t blame me, I didn’t name it.  Beyond the lameness of the name, the software has enabled us to more easily track the progress of our projects from time sheets, expenses, communications, deadlines, documents, logs, etc.  Looks like it is going to be a real asset to the office.  Once we get all our staff familiar with the system, I think it will take a lot of administrative strain off our project managers.  So, if any of you architects are looking for an office management software tool, take a look at Archioffice.com, and see what you think. House & Home Magazine of Dallas has an article in the September issue featuring the Brock & Hasty Residence at Kessler Woods. This residence represents one Hammers + Partners’ most recently completed residential projects and we are delighted to see it received with such a great article. The photo featured above was taken by Terri Glanger of Terri Glanger Photography, whom we have featured in a previous post. There are some terrific shots of the home in the article, along with a great deal of information about the project, and I would encourage everyone to pick up a copy at your local news stand. It is a proud day for me. My home state of New Mexico is moving swiftly to build the first commercial space port in the world, just outside Las Cruces. Designed by British firm Foster + Partners, for Spaceport America, the 31 million dollar port will contain 100,000 sq. ft. of hanger space and is projected to achieve a LEED Platinum certification. In the further push towards a green building future, many more mainstream media companies are beginning to do pretty extensive stories on green homes and office buildings.  Cnet.com has one such story up on the Genzyme Center in Cambridge, Mass., by Behnisch, Behnisch and Partner, of Stuttgart, Germany; along with local architectural partner Next Phase Studio, of Boston, Mass.; constructed by Turner Construction Company in 2003. Cnet has a nice picture gallery up with detailed descriptions of various systems and design details which make this building energy efficient, as well as, comfortable for its occupants.  Also, take  a look at the video related to the article.
